Local artists at Taurus Crafts

In May, Taurus Crafts at Lydney are hosting two exhibitions by local artists.

Anji Horlock has her work on show in the Cafe until 20th May.

In the Garden Room an exhibition called Life As We See It, including paintings and sculpture, will be on show  until May 27th. The work is by artists attending life classes run by artist Angela Palmer in Brockweir.

The centre is open every day from 10am to 5pm and admission is free.

Sling road works on the way (or in the way!)

During the development of the Cornish houses site in Sling, a new drain will be laid under Oakwood Road which will be partially closed from the junction with Milestone Walk to outside 46 Oakwood Road from 21st May 2012 until 18th June 2012.

There were plans to completely close the road, but after some energetic lobbying by the two Sling councillors and following an on-site meeting between Markey Construction representative and Sling Councillor Bill Gibbs it was agreed that one carriageway will be open for the duration of the works except for a very short period, (hopefully just a weekend) when the new drain will be connected to the existing pipe work adjacent to Strathmore Gardens.

If you have any concerns do not hesitate to contact either Bill Gibbs on 837215 or Bill Gayler on 832969 or via the parish office on 564484 or by email: bill.gibbs@westdeanpc.org.uk or bill.gayler@westdeanpc.org.uk

Coming soon: Food and History

There will soon be two new pages on this site, one listing the best places to find top quality food in the Forest of Dean, and one explaining some of the history of our four villages.

But we need your help!

Please let us know your favourite places to buy local produce and food products. And where you can get good meals at good prices. We will put the information on a new page here so everyone can benefit

And send us any information you have about buildings, people, places and events in Sling, Ellwood, Clements End and Little Drybrook. For instance what is the history of the now empty shop almost opposite the Miners Arms? And what is known about the Ellwood brick and tile works? Your memories or photos of any past events in the four villages would be particularly welcome.

Please email info@4villages.org.uk with your information.

Local Diamond Jubilee events

  • The big Royal Forest Jubilee bash will be at Speech House Field on Saturday 2nd June

About this site

Sling, Ellwood, Clements End and Little Drybrook are typical Forest of Dean villages, with a mixture of old and new houses scattered within the statutory forest. Mining, quarrying and forestry are our history, and they continue today alongside modern technology and tourism.

This new web site, linked to the 4Villages newsletter, aims to help local people, local businesses and visitors to the Forest of Dean by letting them know what’s available and what’s happening in and around our four villages.

Please let us know what you think of the site and what you would like to see on it. Or send us details of your local organisation or event and we will list it free of charge.
